Despite the trauma from the deployment of ICE agents to Minneapolis, the response of the people there, and supporters globally, has given us a template for effective, nonviolent systemic non-cooperation to state violence. Something that will likely be needed to withdraw our consent from further occasions of state violence, perhaps in our own communities.
The Minneapolis response has been an example of employing the concepts of the NewCO (new conscientious objector) by means of Mutual Aid and the abolition of police and prisons, to be replace by community care.
At this same time, the work of the Great Plains Action Society’s Urban Resilience Hub in Iowa City is a concrete example of how we can employ those same concepts to build more just communities now.
