Opposite the dystopian images of thousands of heavily armed masked men killing civilians and imprisoning five year old children, the people of Minneapolis have responded remarkably in numerous ways by employing mutual aid.
Community networks are delivering groceries, medicine, and rent relief directly to the doors of those who cannot leave their homes due to the threat of abduction. This includes the distribution of “survival kits” and food to those participating in the “Economic Blackout” (strikes and boycotts).
By providing these “rations” unconditionally, we de-commodify survival. When a neighbor knows they will eat and be housed regardless of their participation in the capitalist market, the state loses its primary lever of coercion. We are not merely feeding people; we are dismantling the mechanism that forces them to submit to the Enforcer.
