Hanging between heaven and earth

The U.S.-backed Israeli government resumed its intense genocidal attacks on Gaza early Tuesday morning, unleashing a massive wave of indiscriminate military strikes across the Strip and killing more than 410 people, including scores of children and women, according to local health officials.

Decolonial Solidarity

True solidarity must be more than symbolic gestures or humanitarian aid. It must be rooted in a decolonial framework—one that recognizes Palestine as part of a broader struggle against colonialism, imperialism, and racial capitalism. Mustafa Jayyousi

BREAKING: DHS enters Columbia dorms

Columbia University has long been the laboratory testing government repression against the pro-Palestinian movement. The most recent was the arrest of Mahmoud Khalil. Yesterday, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) agents entered non-public areas at Columbia to search two student rooms.

Language

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances. First Amendment to the US Constitution

Visualizing Peace

Yesterday I took photos at the University of Wisconsin related to the disappearing of Mahmoud Khalil. That word was also used during the gathering. For a long time, no one know where he had been taken. To disappear is the opposite of visualize. Which is utterly symbolic of authoritarianism, which is obviously on the rise here. Authoritarian efforts must stamp out dissent, and this has been the focus of the current administration.

One thing that hasn't changed is the humanitarian crisis there. The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) that has been the backbone of the provision of humanitarian aid has been the target of false claims and political attacks aimed at defunding the agency. You can use the tool described below to send a message about the need for humanitarian relief in Gaza, and supporting the work of the UN Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) to you Congressional representatives.

Restoring International Order

It is shocking to see a country that considers itself a champion of the rule of law trying to stymie the actions of an independent and impartial tribunal set up by the international community, to thwart accountability. Threats against the ICC promote a culture of impunity. They make a mockery of the decades-long quest to place law above force and atrocity.

Oscars and Palestine

With the world's attention on the Academy Awards last night, filmmakers Yuval Abraham, an Israeli, and Basel Adra, a Palestinian, won the award for Best Documentary for their film, No Other Land. Links to two blog posts I've previously written about this film can be found below.

Recolonizing Gaza?

Why isn't the Western narrative about the future of Gaza based on the desires of the Palestinians living, or from there? Why not support the two-state solution they, and the Arab nations, and the United Nations support?
