Fourth of He Lies

On July 4th, stand with Great Plains Action Society, Iowa Citizens for Community Improvement, Ní Btháska Stand Collective, Des Moines Black Liberation Movement, Humanize My Hoodie, Revolutionary Action Party, Quad Cities Interfaith, Iowa Coalition for Collective Change, and Des Moines Mutual Aid! Join us on “Fourth of He Lies” to demand that the Iowa legislators remove whitewashed monuments to white supremacy in Iowa. Organizers will present a petition demanding that all racist, misogynistic, homo/transphobic, whitewashed historical depictions be removed from all state grounds and facilities. These monuments fall into the realm of hate propaganda and make folks feel unwelcome in public spaces. So, we need legislation that removes all monuments, murals, and depictions of white supremacist persons, acts, and ideologies from all Iowa state grounds and state-funded institutions.

From Benevolence to Solidarity

This is a visualization of the historical journey of Iowa Yearly Meeting (Conservative) and its path toward a future rooted in Mutual Aid. Understanding the fundamental difference between Charity and Mutual Aid is the first step. While both stem from compassion, their approach to power, community, and change are worlds apart.

Ongoing Nakba

Since the late 1990s, the phrase "ongoing Nakba" (Arabic: al-nakba al-mustamirra) has emerged to describe the "continuous experience of violence and dispossession" faced by the Palestinian people. This term emphasizes that the Nakba is not merely an event in 1948, but an ongoing process that continues to the present day.

Our Moral Moment Comes to Congress

It’s always been one of my great dreams to come and be at a Quaker Friends meeting, even if it meant just sittin’ and bein’ quiet. And that’s because I know enough about history to know about the Religious Society of Friends and the abolition campaigns that began long before the end of slavery in Britain. Rev William J. Barber II

Postcolonialism

I’m of the firm opinion that a system that was built by stolen bodies on stolen land for the benefit of a few is a system that is not repairable. It is operating as designed, and small changes (which are the result of huge efforts) to lessen the blow on those it was not designed for are merely half measures that can’t ever fully succeed. Anti-Palestinian Racism

This visual in our series on anti-Palestinian racism captures the systemic abuse of disciplinary measures against Palestinian students and students who express solidarity with Palestinians on college campuses, creating an environment of fear that isolates them from campus life. Anti-Palestinian racism is one tool that reinforces a structure designed to weaken Palestinian resistance and obscure global awareness of the Palestinian struggle for justice and liberation.
